who is appa?

APPA, Perry & Alex Grey at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, NYC 2009 Well, for starters, there is the obvious. APPA is the most outrageous yellow dancing, paint spewing elephant on the planet.

To date, APPA has trekked from the peaks of Asia to the dankest subways of NYC, swaying hips in Europe and swimming in the universal joy of Down Under.

For the past 5 years, APPA has been on the loose, turning heads, dancing to a global heartbeat.

With such sassy dance moves slapped up all over the world, heads continue to snap — wondering who, what and where did THAT elephant come from? Further, what does APPA represent?

The APPA stargate was dialed and busted opened by a humanist named Perry. Dancing on the playa of the Burning Man festival, Perry was filled with a divine transmission of unity with all beings.  Inspired to express his spiritual awakening within an image all could share, Perry journeyed to India. In the land of Ganesha, APPA was born to dance for the following year’s Burning Man festival. APPA’s bold lines, bouncy moves, activated third eye, and whompin step embodied Perry’s vision to spread joy and a positive paradigm throughout the world.

So far 150,000 visionary APPA stickers have been freely distributed as a social statement of positivity worldwide. What was meant as a gift to the Burning Man community became a planetary project for joy, and APPA wouldn’t have it any other way, for APPA knows no boundaries.

Thousands of people have written in their fun, profound, and synchronistic experiences they have had with APPA. Although they ask Perry and the APPA Allies “What does APPA mean?” very often the question is intentionally posed back to them – for what APPA means to you is just as important.

Defining a movement can be limiting, but we are down to co-creatively explore what APPA has come to inspire within YOU: our global community. APPA represents an evolving social movement that is both sacred and silly, urban and dank as a redwood root.

Joy is contagious and one swish from APPA’s trunk on a passing mailbox, train car, sign post, or bumper can brighten even the saddest eyes — at the very least with curiosity — if not the ultimate smile of soul recognition.

As a social movement, APPA will be continullay expanded upon by the lover, dreamer and activist within YOU. We at Team APPA, are inspired by the originality, creativity and generosity of APPA’s family & allies. We affirm our collective vision for a joyful, empowered humanity and a healthy planet earth has already manifested because we are fearlessly dancing through the current global challenges, just like APPA.
